His services were being offered free, we're told . . . You're not expecting people to actually read a thread before having a whinge on this board are you?

Then maybe you or the club should have made it a bit more clearer who he was and what he was trying to do for the club. Not me guv. Not involved. Just posting the message as it appeared elsewhere for everyone's benefit on here. But yeah, a bit more information from someone would have saved a lot of grief.

The world’s on fire, there’s wars breaking out and the world is a mess. But in the south of England there’s a super special club that brings so much joy and happiness, let’s just breathe and enjoy it!
Ps Just double checking everyone so shocked about Racks is aware that “racks” means money 😂
Pps People’s lived experiences and the art they choose to represent this may be vastly different to your own middle class Sussex lives. Respect for the unknown provides the best education.
Peace and love to all who need it 🌈

Just another attention seeking club stunt. At least they realised before it was to late. I worry a teacher would use such language. Not for me I'm afraid.☹️

Your slur against middle class Sussex people is strange, Staines, as if we should expect to welcome the rap in question as simply someone else's equally valid take on life. It's impossible to copy it here without being banned from the forum because, among other things, it includes the n-word and the c-word and is thoroughly misogynistic. Where do you stand on that?

Respect for the unknown provides the best education. Peace and love to all who need it 🌈 Hi Staines - welcome to the forum. Thanks for your thoughts as to the “meaning” of racks. My reference provided: vulgar slang - woman’s breasts slang - large sum of money considering the lyrics of the song in question I’d venture that both meanings are relevant. Generally, I’d also venture that the lived experience of the average Rooks supporter does not embrace the rap and grime culture you espouse. Regards

They gave Martin Scorsese a Presidential Medal of Freedom and you should hear the language in some of his films.
What we are we on, day three, four of an escalating moral panic about a proposed half time entertainment during a preseason friendly that has since been cancelled? Again, I think the word hysterical is appropriate for some of the responses. Suggestions that the club are lying about the performance being free or that the description of "middle class Lewes" is somehow a slur
Personally I've never seen a half time musical performance at a football match that worked, but are we actually saying that any artists with profanities - in other songs (it's been stated that the performance would have been child friendly) - wouldn't be appropriate.

Where's the hysteria? It's simply been pointed out that those lyrics are vile. And though middle class was used as a sly slur, I'm happy to be included in it!

I love that everyone misunderstood the meaning of ‘rack’ within the song - classically beautiful exchange of cultures.
Obviously aware by the other meaning of the word guys but as a linguist I’m intrigued by the beautifully written lyrics.
Racks in this case means money and the song is about running away with a big bag of money. It’s poetically beautiful once decoded - lovely piece of art.
As for all the other words, all have to be taken within the cultural context of rap.
Wasn’t meant to cause offence by saying middle class, just think life is a lot better when you look at other cultures.
I love that we are discussing this in a football forum, thank you for the conversation everyone!

Staines, I'm pleased that this isn't an aggressive exchange, but I'm interested in whether you regard the rap culture as beyond criticism. Does every other culture, however ugly, have to regarded as equally valid?
