Wonder what two areas he’s talking about with the changes. Almost certainly not gonna be in goal, full backs or wingers. With Sablier due back sooner than we thought I’d argue it’s not in the middle of the pitch.
So that leaves centre half and centre forward in my opinion. Wood and Salmon heading for the exits?

Our top goalscorer?? Personally I think Murtagh will go and ideally Ayo can move back into midfield. As much as I like Ayo, I think he’s been exposed too much at right back and we should look at bringing in a proper full back.

The fact he’s the top goal scorer hardly saves him and maybe that’s a wider issue, 4 goals in 13 league games, with one being from the spot is miles off it. He works hard and is a very likeable player, but goals are your currency.
Agree on Murtagh to be fair, not the most dynamic and agile in the middle.

A few days ago I said I wouldn't be surprised if Dalling, Whelpdale and Murtagh went. Notwithstanding he had a good second half today I just don't think Whelpdale does enough. Murtagh, a great passer of the ball and rarely gives it away, but out of possession a different story. Carrying too much weight and too easily bypassed. No way will Wood go....we've been spoiled having Taylor, who is an impossible act to follow, but Wood is slowly finding his feet. Should have scored a couple today and I'd love to see a bit more aggression in his game. Centre forwards with any real pedigree are going to be way out of our pay grade so you have to ask if we can find better for the money we can afford. Answering my own question, I'd say no. I think Lumbombo-Kalala might be vulnerable. Seems to be on the fringes now and with Gondoh coming back I don't see him getting much game time. I like Olukoga at right back, rather than midfield.

I haven't been to any away games but I think you're watching a different Whelpdale to me. In the previous home game he came on as sub and did more to create chances in 20 minutes than anyone had done in the rest of the game. He's exactly the player we've missed for years in linking midfield and attack

But I completely agree about Ayo, he's a decent to good right back, he's never looked good enough in midfield

I wouldn’t be so sure about a top pedigree number 9 being out of our price range, I should think Egan was on a pretty penny - maybe even highest paid. He came with huge potential but never materialised, but that’s a different story.
Agree on Ayo, is a solid 7 out of 10 every game, certainly not a weak link at all. Same for Tamplin when he fills in there too.

Woody does a lot of link-up play as well. Brings others into play.

Don’t disagree, he’s a likeable player and works hard for the team, but he’s got a goals to game ratio in the league worse than 1 in 3. We won’t get play offs with that up top, JT hit 35 last year and it still wasn’t enough (just).

In fact only Hornchurch and Enfield Town have a better goals per game ratio above us.

JT had 37 goals in all comps last season, 10 of those were pens, so 27% of his tally. The only other player to hit double digits was Raz with 14. Deon had 9, Gondoh had 8. The others had 3 or less. So clearly we had a huge dependence on JT.
After 13 league games last season we had scored 19 goals. This season we have improved on that and have scored 25 and we’ve only been given a single penalty (although I’d argue we should’ve had a few more). So something is clearly working - we have a wider spread of goal scorers and less dependency on a single player, which I believe is better to have.
So yes, JT is a much better striker, whilst having much more experience than Tommy, but I believe Tommy is definitely an important part of the team in giving those around him opportunities to score.
