Interesting debate this as it's not just a newco rangers issue. Let's be honest, money has ruined football as it should be and Cricket and Rugby Union is going the same way. How Manchester City can trade with such a massive debt and still buy huge amounts of money to transfer players in and pay obscene wages is beyond me. What other industry could tolerate such goings on?
But back to the thread, the one man I think that has come out of the newco rangers debacle with an immense amount of credit is Ally McCoist. Fair play to him, to stay with a club that has gone from being a "Giant" of scottish football to the bottom tier he has to be admired.
As for Martin Elliot, well that ones easy, without him we wouldn't have a Lewes FC to support and we wouldn't be on this forum discussing them.

any club carried by a millionaire who has a hobby is sitting on the worry that the moneyman will tire.....or get dragged into a situation where the money debts are personal. any club with huge support and the finance it brings...will make it if those running the club keep the outgoings at less than the income. be honest...all the players are paid too much. even in our league, worms has to get the best he can for as little as possible...but some would say, even that is too much. at stoke....years ago...our goalie was on 60quid a week. thommo, man of the match was on a few quid more. reality WILL step in sooner or later.

How much are Rangers paying there players this season? Players don't leave SPL clubs or Championship clubs to play basically non league football for the love of it. Are the new Rangers not going down the same road again?

reality WILL step in sooner or later. No it won't football is out of control now and the only way to halt the downward spiral is for fans to turn their back on the game and say enough is enough, but we all know that won't happen so all the time fans buy tickets at £60 a throw and buy the merchandise it will continue until the working man cannot watch the working man's sport.

i went to a local bar and watched this nonsense along with some friends. firstly, i was gobsmacked at the state of the ground. the pitch was great and it was full up. 4k plus...but the football was dire. in fact, it was so bad, the whole bar just took the piss out of me. captain america does not like a challenge...time to unload. edu off to stoke[undisclosed fee] several new lads in and it was rubbish. as for paying the players...several million quid in from season tickets and newcastle owner and most big earners gone. if it was up to me,the wages would be in pies. as the only bluenose in a family that lived 500yds from parkhead and all supported the tick...i'm getting used to piss taking.

And conversely I'm the only 'traitor' in an otherwise blue-nose family.
But my nearest ground was Partick Thistle, so maybe I should have been a Jag. At school there were roughly equal numbers of old firm and PTFC fans. And my first visit to Parkhead was with a bunch of PT fans. So I've got a soft spot for the Thistle.
Also - though I digress - I remember going to Hampden with my Dad, for Scotland games, and walking past the deserted, ghostly Cathkin - Third Lanark was before my time, but to a young boy the ground looked a bit spooky, and strangely atmospheric in its emptiness.

nhorm...i went to cathkin with my auld man when rangers played there. third lanark were already in trouble with money. george young, the ex ranger hero was the manager and the terraces were grass banks...but bigger than the pan. fans pissing against walls, crowd forced right onto the touchlines and police horses everywhere. after their demise, i went to that derelict site numerous times...family in toryglen and mount florida. a friend of mine, ronnie mc quilter, later bought george young's white jag with the number gy 1...george was then running a hotel. i borrowed this car once. the money men need telling these stories...there are numerous famous teams on the brink right now. a third lanark player, john mc cormick, center half, went to crystal palace and was a great favourite there.
