Essentially, a grant was available to clubs based on attendances. Well, that was the idea....

Ha sure, want me to take your rubbish out and wash your car while I'm at it? In short, some clubs got way more money than others from the COVID bailout. Don't get me started on this. It was supposed to have been based on attendances but a weighting was then added which gave more to clubs in the NL. It essentially meant that poorly supported clubs in the NL, such as Borehamwood, Solihull and Dover, did very nicely thank you (I believe they may have received more money for having zero crowds than in normal times) while others such as Maidstone, Chester, Darlington (and I think Dulwich), which were well supported but happened to be in NLS and NLN, came out very badly. By coincidence the govt minister Oliver Dowden, whose department at the time was in charge of the handouts, happens to be a Borehamwood supporter. In another coincidence several of the chairmen who came up with the formula (ie were on the National league board) including the then chairman of Dover, happened to be running poorly supported clubs. The Maidstone chairman was very vocal at the time but nothing was done. Perhaps if ITV did a drama more people would take notice. |

That sums it up. The people with the power voted for a scheme that suited their own club (allegedly).
