Lewes U18s have produced such players as Solly March, Grant Hall and David Wheeler as well as steady stream of players for the 1st Team. Why has this dried up as a source of talent, I can’t remember the last player to come from the U18s to be a regular member of the 1st Team.

Just looked up League Table. Currently joint top with Worthing. Rarely get a mention. Perhaps editorial team might be able to include something in Progcast?

Seem to go downhill when training was moved out of Lewes by Tony The U18s moved to Haywards Heath Town to reduce the usage on the pitch. It was always for one season until the new one was laid. Unfortunately, league rules on facilities meant we couldn’t use our 3G for league games. The team returned at the start of last season. Manager, Dale Hurley, who was also part of Tony’s management team left to take the co-manager role at Lancing. Jon Miller took over and a number of his squad train with the 1st team, when they don’t have a game, at the Pan on a Thursday night. Unfortunately, without a development squad, many of the players choose to play their Saturday football at local Step 5, or even Step 4 clubs. Faced with a choice of a potential place on the bench with us, or starting with a Step 5 club, it’s not hard to see why they choose the latter. We’ve got a great bunch of young players in the first team squad (Harvey, Archie, Arthur, Jake). Whilst they have come through the ranks elsewhere, they provide a good example to the 18s who join those Thursday training sessions.
