Is it really an issue it's not the opera for goodness sake. As long as chanting dosent enter realms of racism or homephobia.Really? So there are degrees of mindless abuse that are quite acceptable? Essay, no more than 2000 words, by Friday, please! Perhaps one of the so-called youth wing could post on here and tell us about the joy brought to their weekend by telling the keeper what they think of him (but only when done with a group) each time he takes a goal kick. ‘Youth wing’ member here. I really don’t understand your issue with that chant. It’s pretty harmless. Just as you stand at the side, away from the majority of the lewes fans, we prefer to stand behind the goal and create an atmosphere. Everyone should be allowed to support in their own way.

Coming from an old boy who goes everywhere every week - You keep coming and keep it up - It won’t go away and fans do this to us like it or not every week. As witnessed many times over the years the supporters are part of the team and I for one love the support you guys give supporting Lewes. “That’s football”

Thanks for the responses.
A couple of points; 'others do it' I'm sure some do, but I'm there most weeks and can't recall Nathan, who is clearly a decent guy, suffering from it.
'We create atmosphere' Excellent! I'm all for atmosphere, but does atmosphere only happen when you abuse people? I've been watching sport for many years and the best atmospheres haven't involved any abuse at all!
'Don't understand your issue with that chant'. It's inane, factually incorrect and unpleasant. I was standing with a couple of ex Lewes players recently and their word was 'pathetic'. Not sure what the current players think.
I certainly don't think it makes people admire Lewes more.

Anyway......back to the game. How did we lose that? We looked a class apart from them first half and still went in 3-1 down. What's going on? I think it's fair to say we didn't get a break throughout the 90. How the referee didn't see that penalty early on is beyond me. We are really struggling to make clear cut chances. (I see Joe Taylor scored 4 yesterday and is scoring for fun. Ramsgate must have found a way of feeding him better than we did). I think we have some very good players on the ball and who can pass a ball. But, in my opinion, it's all too slow. We always end up faced with a wall of 10 men, all in position, to try and pass through, and the move invariably breaks down. Some of us moan about being shot-shy, and I can understand that, but also what is the point of just blasting the ball against a couple of the aforementioned 10 men all in position? You need a little space to shoot. Just my opinion and I'm not having a pop at anyone! I'm not a manager and have never been one so what do I know?

Agree we look a bit ponderous at times and still think we are carrying a few passengers in the squad. Wouldn't be surprised to see Murtagh and/or Whelpdale moving on; and I'm struggling to see what Dalling brings to the table. Why we haven't brought another forward in to help Wood is beyond me.

One more thing:
Mid November and Lewes haven't been awarded a penalty yet.
Is that a record?

As for Joe Taylor, didn't he get 36 for us last season? Ah well - at least the chips were good. Spicy sauce was a tad hot!

Sorry to return to the earlier discussion, but I do find the comments on the chanting a bit irritating.
The difference it makes having a group of people motivated enough and dedicated to chanting is substantial. It transforms the experience of all fans when the crowd gets involved. I totally get the choice of language might not be to everyone's taste, but I don't think you can cherry pick the gripe about language without showing appreciation for the effort and positive impact they have. The chanting is never malicious - you could see this in the fact that the chants included self-deprecation about our lack of having the ball.
When the youth wing aren't leading the chants, the atmosphere feels completely different and I miss it.
If you feel uncomfortable with the choice of language, I'd be more understanding if you provided your own chants and contributed to generating an atmosphere. In absence of this, I am grateful to those who do this for the benefit of others even if I find some of the swear words a bit uncomfortable.

I can’t help feeling there’s a certain amount of irony with regards to language being used to support the teams. Whitehawk is place that you wouldn’t be surprised to hear colourful language, and before I get accused of being patronising, I was born and brought up in Whitehawk. Lewes on the other hand is the epitome of middle class.
Yet, here we with Lewes fans chanting language that hasn’t been acceptable at league grounds for years. Whitehawk fans on the other hand make plenty of noise without the need to chant abusive language. Infact their message is very positive.
From a personal view, I’m not offended by the swearing but I would be embarrassed to hear it in front of children and Whitehawk prove that you don’t need to do it to loudly support your team.

It's a bit like some comedians who think expletives are funny. Um - no, they aren't.
Anyway - why is Whitehawk's main stand 20 yards back from the pitch?

Sometimes a bit juvenile, but rather have the singing and chanting than not. Youth didn't go to Margate, for example, and it was like a wake. I doubt the away keepers take a blind bit of notice of some of the verbals they get. Probably just pleased to be playing in front of more than one man and a dog. The Oslo keeper was a great sport.
