So it's goodbye to another cup, though it must be said that this wasn't the comfortable win for Whitehawk that the score line may suggest. If anything we played the more composed football, but when it came to cutting edge we were definitely second best.
The Rooks made most of the early running, with Kalvin forcing a brilliant save from their keeper, and once we had taken the lead (Ola outpacing his man and slotting home after being played in by Tommy Wood) we had a few moments in which to think this might be our day.
Did their weirdly sloping pitch play a part in the equaliser? One of our defenders, facing uphill, seemed confident of shepherding the ball safely over the byline, but it didn't run fast enough and their no. 9 promptly slammed it low across Nathan into the far corner.
Two more goals followed in quick succession: a penalty (we were too far away to see what happened), and a worldy into the top corner from their no. 11, who was perhaps given too much freedom to track across the penalty box before getting his shot away.
All to do in the second half then, but we rather huffed and puffed at it, and a header off the bar was the closest we got. When Jake Elliott strides forward out of defence opportunities sometimes present themselves, but we too often try to walk the ball in and rarely put a cross into the box. On good days we WILL walk it in, but this certainly wasn't one of them.
The crowd was just shy of 750 - very good for them, we understand. After all, they are, our songsters sang unkindly, 'just a bus stop in Brighton'.

Yes another disappointing defeat after looking much the better team up until whitehawks first goal after that we were struggling for most of the second half. We desperately need those injured players back to hopefully get those playoff hopes going again,O and for the little kids of the so called youth wing does it make them feel big with the continuous swearing like to see their faces iff they met a big group of supporters from another team who didn’t take to them.

I don’t condone the language that some of them used but most of them did try to keep the spirits up during the 2nd half. 1st half they played a huge role in making noise. 2nd half would have been even more depressing to experience in silence but they made sure to keep the chants going. A lot of people were frustrated and rightly so after a poor performance. Also, why are you referring to them as “little kids”? The majority of them are adults.

We are definitely going through a tough patch at the moment. Since Enfield we have struggled scoring goals and creating good chances. Probably linked with the unfortunate injury to Sablier. 3 defeats in 4 games is not good, but we had a patch like this last season and then had a great run after the turn of the year to climb up the league
In recent games it appears our defending has gone downhill a bit. Both goals against Wingate were avoidable and it seems that we were undone by a simple long ball for the first goal today which is disappointing.
Egan leaving must have freed up some wage budget as I doubt he was cheap given his pedigree, hopefully we can put it towards someone to give us that creative spark. Last season Tyrique Hyde came in and we looked a different team completely, if Tony can pull another signing like that out the bag we will be in for a good ride!
As for the swearing, is it really an issue? It happens at every football ground in the country. The youth wing have been great the last few seasons and personally I am a fan

The swearing is an issue. It's not a little bit during conversation, it's orchestrated chanting.
I'm not one who gathers behind the goal, preferring to mix with others and watch from the side. It is sometimes embarrassing being a Lewes supporter when hearing the inane chants, for example every time the opposing goalkeeper takes a goal kick.
I thought we were trying to be a different sort of club with high standards?

I always stand with our defence hence mixing with the opposition supporters and I’ve always been shocked at the verbal abuse being shouted at the players especially as most of the supporters are adults. Unfortunately this is part of football especially at this level when you can hear everything said. I too am absolutely embarrassed by this behaviour. - Can anyone remember Champs last season at Canvey Island advising a local supporter to shout up there’s children in the crowd, ironically the children were the children of the man shouting abusive language, what great parent hood and an example to his children who probably think it normal. Some of the abuse directed at Lewes Cary last season was criminal and totally unjust. About the game - Salmon instead of Vint everyday for me unfortunately Vint can’t move, and miles off being match fit! I’d imagine Salmon like Gondo must be coming back from an injury?

Watching from the side you don't hear the worst of it, but the goalkick chant is indeed tiresome.

We're safe here on the forum, though. In my match report last week I referred to a mis-hit without the hyphen and it kept coming up with 'mipoo'.

Essay, no more than 2000 words, by Friday, please! Perhaps one of the so-called youth wing could post on here and tell us about the joy brought to their weekend by telling the keeper what they think of him (but only when done with a group) each time he takes a goal kick.

Made me feel good knowing there would be zero support or atmosphere without us.
