A point is a point..... A hard-fought match with Birmingham that ended in a 0-0 draw.
A disappointing crowd IMO as there were about half as many attendees as at the opener two weeks ago.
Birmingham had the majority of possession in the match. On occasion, we strung together a few nice combinations, but Birmingham exhibited better passing skills and repeatedly showed the ability to find open space to receive the ball and move up field. One nice combo put Hamilton through on goal but the shot went astray. Grey did well exhibiting her speed up front and we tended to play a lot of balls for her to run onto.
A couple of oddities.... Birmingham was called for 3 hand balls in open field play in the first half. Riglar once again was called for a foul throw!
The last few minutes of the first half found Birmingham playing ping pong in the box. We probably were lucky to escape, or they were unlucky not to score. Vassell looked very good at center back in her first starting role. She was later called as the player of the match and it was deserved. Hack was missing, probably due to the unfortunate death of her grandfather.
The second half was more of the first. However, at about 65' minutes in both teams suffered a red card to reduce the side. Hamilton's came after her first yellow was for pushing the ball was from a direct kick awarded to Birmingham. We'll miss her next week! The ref was very ready to show yellows throughout the match IMO.
The last 10 minutes with both teams subbing fully was pretty choppy. However, Sophie did make a beautiful save on a well struck ball from Ellie Mason.
We'll take the point. Unfortunately, due to goal differential, we remain bottom of the table.
