Those of us who were opposed to the takeover certainly shouldn't crow about this outcome, welcome though it is. Much was made about the club not being viable without a large injection of cash, and surely another debate must now follow - about how we pay our way, and what the reasonable expectations of the men's and women's teams should be. I strongly agree with this post. As I tried to say in a number of posts on the subject the sale/investment was a genuine response to a crisis created by previous model; that the club couldn’t sustain the previous business model without additional funds being injected. Well done to the Board for doing right by the clubs principles but sadly that just means that there are now further challenges that the Board will have to confront. All power to them.

Isn't this the inevitable result of trying to run two sides with varying income streams. A non league club trying to pay how many players 30 and staff every week. Don't the women play less games and less admission? And yet the women generate more income because of their league position. If the women are relegated, then that income stream for the club disappears and affects all of the teams. That's why the investment opportunity was attractive. It would firm up the position of the women's team. But, ultimately I guess Mercury were only interested in the revenue they generated serving the women's team and so the Board rightly stuck to their principles. That shows guts.

I doubt the collapse of the M/13 deal was to do with principles. Maybe the prospect of relegation spooked M/13. Or maybe they have another target in the WSL. What happens now? The Board said we need the investment, so what is the plan?

Let’s hope the new directors have some big plans to get some big sponsors, although I suspect that won’t happen nor will self sufficientsy ever work for a high standard of football men or women.

Well, we were assured on here that the final handout money isn't all gone. We'll see in time, I guess.
