According to their website "Mercury 13 Holdco, Inc., although operating similarly to a private equity fund, is structured as a Delaware corporation holding company"
In a recent Price of Football podcast (19th June at 18:15) football finance expert Kieran Maguire said "My view of private equity in football is they are bad for the sport. They are only interested in a financial return. They are only interested in the monetisation of fans."
So is private equity good or bad for Lewes Women?

That's what investors of any kind do - expect a return.

He's also been clear a few times that fan owned clubs are great on a basic level but there is ceiling on what they can achieve due to the finances involved.

Sorry, I just don't get what Mercury13 feel they can get out of a club the size of Lewes and the levels we play at. Where has this all come from? Giving up 51% seems to me to be a hell of a risk and an investor no brainer. But lets see what comes out in the wash. COYR

It must be good, or else the board wouldn't be selling.

It’s all gone very quiet since the vote in favour of the Mercury 13 deal. Any update on whether this is going ahead?

Deals is off, mutually 'cancelled'. So the 'Nays' have it.

Hope they paid our costs.
I personally think this was always an ill fit, but thank the directors and everyone else who tried to make it work.

“Lewes FC stands as a unique entity in the football world: with core principles of equality that are deeply embedded in the club’s ethos, identity, and structure. Mercury/13’s mission to invest only in women’s football teams would pose a disruption far too big to Lewes FC’s foundation.”
Maybe I’m interpreting this wrong but sounds like Mercury weren’t keen on the idea of the Men’s team having a share of the investment?

rook99 - One key principle is that our club is an inter-connected club with central resources, and the operating priorities that Mercury 13 would look to put in place would disrupt the club operating foundations too much. When we say principles, these go beyond value based principles and include operational principles too. Hope this helps.

Those of us who were opposed to the takeover certainly shouldn't crow about this outcome, welcome though it is. Much was made about the club not being viable without a large injection of cash, and surely another debate must now follow - about how we pay our way, and what the reasonable expectations of the men's and women's teams should be.

Isn't this the inevitable result of trying to run two sides with varying income streams. A non league club trying to pay how many players 30 and staff every week. Don't the women play less games and less admission?

Very well put. Over a short period of time those expectations will have to change and some of them will hurt. I'm not sure that there will be any debate though. Over the last 4 years or so, the Club has been really working on gaining sponsorship and partnership monies with good success. I'm sure that their efforts will continue. However, as the cost of football climbs, we'll just have to take what we can get compared to our standings in the pecking order.
