:DWe have new goal nets and newly painted goalposts. They look great. Late this afternoon we had the professionals from BHA turn up (arranged and paid for voluntarily by Fingers) to paint the white lines on the rather marvellous looking grass that is the Dripping Pan. Kingy was there overseeing as he wants the widest possible allowed pitch to give his wingers the best wide open space to operate in. You have to admire this attention to detail from the King. He's not on overtime. There is no such thing as overtime. He just wants the best for the club in the coming season. Let's enjoy.

:DHaving now read some silly stuff about Roger our goundsman extraordinaire on a different thread let me say that though he isn't a professional groundsman his work in maintaining the pitch is absolutely invaluable to Lewes FC and has been crucial over the years. It is really hard to understand why people bother to post to question the work of superb volunteers. It was Roger's original suggestion to bring a bonfire society in to run the Rook Inn that has turned what was a £20k loss in 2007-2008 into a £15k surplus in the last financial year. What we need is a few more bright ideas like this please and none of the silly knocks.

Yes it would be nice to know who will profit from this sell-off. Not "owners" apparently.

Fair comment. I'll give it a rest for a few weeks.

I got caught in a huge rain shower the other weekend and was lucky to get refuge in the Pan with my dog under cover - it was so heavy Roger and I couldn't hear each other speak! It was just before the lines got painted and the pitch looked fantastic and Roger was mowing it right up to the shower and right after. Can I just say Lewes FC nearly always gets our game on when so many others get callled off and that is testament to the work put in by all who work on and manage the pitch. I know the seated stand causes some problems with its shadow in the winter but we still get the game on. The pitch looks very wide to me but is it compared to others? i always think it is a bit mad that the pitch dimensions can vary so much in football compared with most other sports - so interesting to know how it compares, it looks big to me.

Steve King had the pitch widened when he first came here, in order to give our wingers more scope. We should reap the benefit again this time . . .

:DApparently there are varying league rules and FA rules pertaining to pitch size but I understand that the Lewes pitch matches all criteria. As it should because, after all, 'proper' football has been played on the Dripping Pan for the last 125 years! I've posted this many times but it doesn't do any harm to post it again - we are incredibly lucky to have the ground expertise and specialist equipment supplied by Milhams (AKA Kevin Fingerneissl and family) at the disposal of Lewes FC. A wonderful asset. Couple this expertise with the boundless enthusiasm of Roger and his willingness to give up hours and hours each week on behalf of the Mighty Rooks and you have a dream pitch team.

Peter Adeniyi on one wing. Kirk Watts on the other. Those were the days.........

I was a big fan of dobbo too, he certainly knew how to entertain! Wattsy and especially Adeniyi were certainly class as well. For me, though, best wingers combination has to be Binns and Drury

i second that pepper. dobson was a really good player but we saw most his skills at half time. binns and drury were class for us.

Who remembers Dwain Clark on the left wing? Talented but infuriating player who could beat full backs with ease........and then usually put the cross over the Philcox roof.
