Although the forthcoming World Cup will help bridge the gap of one season finishing and the next one starting, I'm struggling to get very excited about England's chances. I think this is one of the poorest England teams I've seen in years. We just don't seem to have any quality strikers or play-makers who can unlock defences, especially at a World Cup level. I really can't see us getting out of our group so I don't think our interest in the tournament will last very long. Still, on the plus side, it will save having to get up at stupid o'clock to watch it.
Anyone feel a bit more optimistic than me?

Me Seriously though - maybe the lack of hysteria and expectation this time will lead to pleasant surprises for you south-of-the-border folks - rather than the other way round as is more usual.

"I don't think our interest in the tournament will last very long" I think you are right if you are talking about solely from a nationalist point of view, this has to be the worst looking England team ever to qualify for the finals ! But hey its South America land of beautiful football and beautiful women let the Samba begin !

woy has picked a mix.....just better than average....but good luck. despite wee gordon bumping on the standard of football here 'up north' is pure rubbish. be years till Scotland have a decent team. too many ordinary journeymen from all over the place.....youngsters need a chance.

I don't think it's much different down South Billy, it's just that we can pay "our" journeymen an awful lot more money !!

I think Sturridge and Rooney are decent strikers - its the defence that concerns me. Still very much looking forward to the World Cup even if England's chances are even slimmer than usual.

Well that's that again until the next time. Same old story. Much vaunted premiership players being found out again on the world stage.
