The Competitive Return Of The King.
Met Police won 1-0 at home to Harrow Borough at the weekend and currently sit 8th after 1 game.
Lewes are 21st after Saturday's results onwards and upwards (we're not finishing second bottom again!)
Have heard several reports of Hustwick having a bit of a nightmare on Saturday so based on that my starting XI would be.
GK Williams RB Kamara LB Hamilton (if fit) CB Robinson CB Sterling DM Somner CM Hakeem CM Ciardini RF Small LF Malcolm CF Booth
COYR!

I personally don't think the 4-3-3 formation has been working too well as people like Draycott then have to play virtually on the wing where they are not really suited to I would be inclined to go with on 2 CM and two proper strikers and two wingers, so bassically 4-4-2. GK Williams RB Kamara CB Robinson CB Hustwick LB Ciardini CM Somner CM Wallace RW Malcolm LW Lang ST Draycott ST Small I do not think it would happen but I would like to see Lang on the left wing as I think he looks very good, however if Hamilton is fit then I would put Ciardini on LW and Hamilton in the defence. I would also like to see Wallace start as I think he has looked good in pre season and having the 3 strong CM is a bit too defensive for me and I would like to see some pace and creativity added. In the back 4 Hustwicks proper possition is at CB and he didn't really cut it at right back, I know that Sterling has looked good at CB also but I think the defence is rather slow which hasn't mattered so much in pre season, I don't know if Hustwick would add any speed to it but I would give it a go and move Kamara to right back. I am optomistic at home and am going to go for a 4-1 win!

Yes it would be nice to know who will profit from this sell-off. Not "owners" apparently.

I think Ciardini is wasted in defence. I'd like to see him and Cade or Small on the wings. Lang or Hamilton in the left back defence position. Then I want to see strikers Booth and Malcom or Draycott on from the start. We need goals. Until Holloway is fit, Somner and Wallace are first choice. Robnson, Sterling and Hustwick complete the back line. Any of our goalkeepers deserve a place but I'd like to think they will not have to do anything more than an occasional briliiant save as the season progresses.
I think it is totally unfair to blame Hustwick for the Lowestoft outcome. We didn't score any goals. That wasn't Max's fault. I think the whole team looked a bit tired and unready and uncommitted and shocked - especially after the first goal in the second half. These aren't friendlies anymore! We need 8/10 every match from every player to get out of this alien league.

The team traveled up the day before, no excuse for tiredness...Lowestoft have a settled team who know each other well, our guys have been together for what? 6 weeks? this is a rebuilding process, and hopefully success will follow. If we get an attendance of 606 tomorrow i will be a happy man.

Everyone sees games differently but it was the word "uncommitted" that bothered me most. I don't mind a loss as long as the team gives 100%. Maybe we need a bit more of the Cable/Kennett attitude on show.

I really can't see Wallace starting, I don't see him being here all that long (Newcastle have had him on trial recently in addition to the interest from Leeds).

Fantastic win
It was an "ugly win" in my view. Early stages we were all over them, Small with an early chance. They grew into life and has to be said defended very well. There number 6 was a big lad but i thought he was class for them. We were denied a clear pen in both halfs. I was very impressed with Robbos performence. As i say great start, exciting season could lie ahead !

I don't go along with much of that nickyboy. A win is a win but for a fair part of that game we were bl**dy awful.

It's too early to draw too many conclusions as yet but hey, we need to get some meaningful discussion going on this forum to move us forward from sniping about wages, money and mysterious but unsubstantiated gossip. So, for what it's worth, here are a few of my musings after today: 1) I thought we looked neat and the win was reasonably but not completely comfortable 2) We look to have some tidy players who can play pretty football. I liked our right hand side and Ciardini (is that spelling correct?) looks to be a very decent player indeed. 3) I'm not so sure about our central midfield. They didn't impose themselves on the game as much as I would like but I felt they did improve in the second half. To me it seems we are crying out for Holloway as he takes the game from he scruff of the neck and "bosses" it. Does anyone know when he is back? 4) Although I think it goes against the masterplan, I think we need a lump to dominate up front. Our forwards look like footballers and I liked our approach play tonight but I don't think either Small or Booth posed much of a threat within the penalty area itself. Happy memories of the under-valued Matt Groves come to mind....but please, not Danny Buckle!!! 5) Having Steve King back will not guarantee that we will win this league!! It's going to be hard work. 6) I thought the crowd was disappointing. Only 500 and very quiet. There also seemed to be a few familiar faces missing.
Nothing too earth shattering from me then but just a few early ideas to get us chatting.
