As mentioned elsewhere, our football club is well on its way to being self-sufficient. Budget and plans are in place. Anything we fans can offer in terms of time, effort and pure hard cash will help the club reach its target.
With this in mind, the Supporters Club is gearing-up for the season ahead, even going so far as to setup a dynamic young group (I think one of us in his 30s) to look specifically at fund-raising.
So, we hope to boost funds raised from our current activities (eg. the raffle and golden goal on match-days), as well as dreaming-up new income streams.
We plan for the SC to be more 'visible' this coming season - in terms of being easily indentified on match-days, and keeping you updated with our progress.
To this end, we'll be making much more use of this section of the Forum.
We've setup our own group forum name, as used recently on the main section to give a quick heads-up on the England games on tv at the Rook Inn.
Though for this initial post, I've used my own name (almost). Some of you may know me personally. Some of you will have run the gauntlet of my Golden Goal at the Season Ticket gate. Anyone else - 'Hello'.
So, we already have lots of plans, but of course we'll need your help - in participation, in volunteering, and in ideas.
Some of you have been making suggestions on the main section, and I don't want these to go unrecognised, so here's some comments ...
Mr Socio
Interesting charity concept. Not sure how that would work exactly. Eg. would you be willing to trawl around for items and man a stall at the Pan, if such a thing were allowed? We can have a chat about it sometime if you like.
Mr Winscombe
6-a-side - Liking this idea - two games at once across the Pan - easier than 11-a-side for those of us who are stamina-challenged - and there are already 11s games at the end of the season - we'll put some thought into this.
Skittles - this is something we've already considered for end of season - also Stoolball - anything that gets the crowds into the Pan and spending money on drinks and food (and shares and whatever) - needs to be in the Golden Window (after last match, but before work starts on the pitch for the following season).
Quiz - again, something we're considering - getting bums on seats in the Rook Inn - one issue so far is lack of seats - and tables!
Obviously we'll put you in charge of our west country events - like the upcoming cider & pastie challenge (for which Chunky will have to be handicapped).
Mr P Pie
Thanks for offering to get involved with end-of-season football event - that's what we like. We'll catch you nearer the time to discuss further.
Mr A W or a D (surely the best name on the forum)
Interesting t-shirt idea - I'll run it by 'Barry the Shop' and see what he thinks.
So - more to follow - first up will be the England games at the Rook Inn - the bar will be staffed by SC volunteers, so any profits go straight to the club - stay tuned for more news on that - France shirts allowed, in fact encouraged
