Where did that performance come from? Horsham are fast, direct and favourites for a play-off place, but this victory was thoroughly deserved. Arthur Penny got the nod as MoM, but any of his colleagues might have won it on a night when to a man they played brilliantly both individually and for one another.
The first half was played in drenching rain, the Rooks just about deserving a 1-0 lead, Chris Whelpdale helping the ball over the line in the 37th minute after a series of shots had been blocked.
Chris dropped back into midfield from his centre forward role after halftime, replacing Bradley Pritchard, with Walter Figueira coming on to buzz about up front. For the next half hour we played some of our best football of the season, stretching our lead to 2-0 on 56 minutes. A neat move up the right flank sent Ola free, and he beat two men before fizzing a shot into the net.
There were a few nervous moments after the Horsham sub Mazzone rose to head home on 75 minutes, with the visitors hoisting the ball towards our penalty area whenever they could, but the Rooks not only continued to hold firm but swept forward on the break in search of a third goal.
Attendance 744. Let's play like that against Hashtag on Saturday!

Superb performance. Great game to watch, end to end. All players put in a shift. Astute substitutions by Horsham but we held firm.

Possibly the game of the season for me. If only we had played like this more often this season....... The commitment and effort tonight was excellent. Bodies on the line stuff. 6 points and the double over Horsham. Who would have thought it? 😄

Looked a completely different team too Saturday. Best game of the season by far.

I very nearly have this game a miss. It was a wet night and I thought we would get hammered. Horsham had the incentive to play to win rather than us. I'm very glad I went and was wrong.
