It was quite like old times this afternoon. Outside the ground the two Chrises were selling their doom-ridden fanzine as in days of yore ('Woe to the spendthrift board of Lewes FC!'), while inside, the familiar visitors' drummer queen kept up her incessant chants ('Come on, you Gate, come on!') that must leave her croaking by the end of 90 minutes.
On the pitch the Rooks had one of their better days. Kalvin set us on our way after eight minutes with a typical Kalvin finish (cutting in from the left and firing a shot across the keeper) and Tommy soon converted a penalty he had won himself. We later gave away a bit of a silly goal (caught in possession; an unsuccessful block), but birthday boy Chris Whelpdale swept the ball home from close range after one of several sweeping moves to restore our two-goal lead at the interval.
The second half was plain sailing, although after Kalvin had secured the MoM award with an outrageously calm bent delivery for 4-1, we gave their centre forward too much space for a wonderful drive from the edge of the box, arousing the slightest fear that Margate might make a late fight of it. But no: they had spirit but were comfortably outplayed on the day.
With the teams in third, fourth and fifth positions losing today, winning our games in hand would see us in the playoff positions - and Tuesday's match against Carshalton should give us an indication of how likely that is.
The crowd was a very healthy 933 - or perhaps 934 if the baby being bottle-fed in front of us hadn't been counted. Our spectators are becoming ever more diversified: dogs, babies - what next?

A lot more comfortable than the scoreline suggests. Margate were a shadow of the team that got in our faces at their place in November. Only carelessness at both ends prevented a proper rout. Kalvin ran them ragged and thoroughly deserved motm...shame he couldn't finish the one-on-one to complete the hat trick. A pretty good reaction to the drubbing at Billericay. In fairness we've been very good recently, and Margate were simply outclassed today. That fanzine is a bundle of laughs... essentially the same rant on every page!

Good solid performance without really getting out of 3rd gear.
When Kalvin is at his best he’s a wonderful watch. Margate are awfully average and that woman’s chanting must drive them mad. I’m all for supporting but she was rather irritating. I hope that doesn’t offend anyone.
Good to have the fanzine going and good to see Ed Briggs today.
We’re well placed with some huge games coming up!
Up the mighty Rooks

Margate now without a win since they beat us 16 games ago and are right in the thick of a relegation scrap. Possibly the best turnaround of form has been Bognor who have been on a roll since we beat them on NYD

They played like men possessed in the game against us at Margate. Not sure what's happened to their centre half that day, Lewis Knight. He was an absolute areshole but marshalled their defence superbly and we hardly got a kick. Didn't see much fight yesterday. The scoreline flattered them. Looks like we may be swapping Margate for Ramsgate for our seaside trip to that part of Kent. Would be a shame as Margate is a cracking weekend at any time of year.

Spot on as always, but you forgot to mention the one-man band (well woman!) that turns up every time we play Margate. I know its not very pc or following the Lewes FC ethos, but god I wish someone would smack her in the gob!!
