On a great day of footballing entertainment at the Pan we held the Rooks Xmas Draw at half time on the concourse in front of the seated stand. A posse of supporters took turns to pull out the 10 winners from a black bin liner – used because the plastic dustbin originally designated for holding the draw tickets was simply too full. Ethel Treagus drew out ticket 905 and this awarded the top prize of £250 cash to Les Langston. Second prize of £100 cash goes to John Lassetter of Bone Clothing. I’d sold John his ticket (1044) a couple of hours earlier! Third prize of £50 cash goes to Phil Hindian of Biggin Hill in Kent. A phone call ascertained that Phil works with a Lewes fan who had persuaded him to buy a ticket (0250). Fifth prize of a Seasonal Hamper with Gourmet Food and Wine went to our resilient defender Steve Brinkhurst (1245). Sixth prize of two tickets for the England v Italy game at Wembley on 27 March were claimed by another excellent player, Bouwe Bosma (1184). I assure you it was not at all influenced by the fact that Barbara and I are his kit sponsors though we do hope to use our feeble influence to secure him a pass on training that night but can’t make any promises. Seventh prize - a crate of Harvey’s craft beers was won by Mrs Lamb (0926) and taken home to her by ‘Come Dine With Me’ star Dave Lamb. The eighth prize of another craft beer selection was won by ‘Bibi’ with ticket number 0381. Bibi is a friend of Lewes stalwart Peter Hiscox who has been unwell lately with pneumonia but is now recovering well but couldn’t be at the game today. Ninth prize was a bottle of brandy won by Alan Griffiths (1626). The last but not least prize was a signed script of Lewes fan Patrick Marber’s highly successful West End play ‘The Red Lion’. The play’s plot was inspired by Patrick’s experiences as a Lewes FC Director nearly a decade ago and though he’s not named as such, the essence of Ibbo is there. The winner (1909) was Chris Mason, co-editor of the notorious fanzine ‘Knickers to ‘Em’. Young Chris told me he wasn’t the right recipient of such a prize and asked to see if we could raise more money for Lewes FC via an auction or on Ebay. Nice gesture so that’s what we are going to do. We already have an opening bid of £100 – from me.
