There was a serious fire at Marlborough House Extra care Scheme in St Leonards on Sunday morning. All the clients were safely evacuated, thanks to the commitment and dedication of the staff on duty, and many off duty staff and members of public came to assist. The building has been severely damaged, with the top floor and roof destroyed and the lower floors suffering extensive water damage. The clients are frail and frightened and have been temporarily re-housed in a range of residential care and nursing homes, while we work with other agencies to identify a longer term plan while the building is repaired.
They have nothing except the clothes they were wearing when they were evacuated, which in some cases is just their underwear and dressing gown, so staff are seeking the following donations of clothing for them:
· Shoes · Slippers · Pyjamas · Nightdresses · Dressing gowns · Towels · Socks · Underwear (new only) · Trousers (men and women) · Shirts and T shirts · Jumpers · Blouses · Skirts · Dresses · Light jackets
Any donations should be taken to YMCA St Pauls Road, St Leonards on Sea East Sussex between 10-4 on Tuesday 30th or Wednesday 31st July or contact claire.howell@familymosaic.co.uk.
Please share widely!
Have asked if people can send to the YMCA in Lewes and if someone can collect from there
