You didn't need to be a connoisseur of the game to appreciate the hiding the Rooks gave to Enfield this afternoon. The 83-year-old woman next to me, treating her grandchildren to the match, was at her first ever live game of football (apart, bizarrely, from a solitary out-of-character visit to the Maracana in Rio in her younger days) and yet was soon not only purring about the quality of our passing but very early on singled out the player who for her was doing the business. Young Archie Tamplin was duly named Man of the Match.
But there were stars all over the pitch today, and the visitors - above us in the table beforehand, but now below us on goal difference - were made to look very ordinary. A bit of slack defending allowed them a couple of half chances in the first 45 minutes, but otherwise the play was all in their half and it took a couple of smart saves to keep our lead down to a single goal at the interval. That was scored after little more than a quarter of an hour by Arthur Penney, who met Brad's corner kick at the far post with a deft header that left their keeper flat-footed with no defender on the line to help him.
Surely a rejuvenated Enfield would emerge after the break? In fact the second half was even more one-sided than the first. Deon, fresh from scoring for Guyana a few days ago, cut inside to bury a shot for 2-0; a flowing move ended with a hapless defender deflecting the ball into his own net for the third; and then, praise be, Tommy completed the scoring by turning his man and firing a low shot into the far corner.
Stuart Fuller must have been delighted to mark the end of his 12 years as chairman with this emphatic thumping - but I know an 83-year-old first-timer who was pretty darn chuffed too!

Thought it was 12 years but does seem like he has always been here.

I started with a 4-0 home defeat so it’s poetic to end with a 4-0 home win. I don’t think we got out of third gear today - we saw Enfield on Wednesday at Kingstonian and they impressed us. But today we made them look ordinary. There’s a lot more to come from this side

Great all round team performance today made Enfield look very ordinary who was unbeaten away before today in the league, and it was good to see Tommy wood get another goal.

Truth be told they got a right battering. There's a nice balance about the side now. Wood is slowly growing on me and his goal was a belter. Interesting that the midfield has pretty much been rebuilt since the Chatham debacle and we look a proper team now. Can't see Hornchurch being caught but nothing to fear in this league. Said last week that we didn't see the real Lewes at Aldershot.. I think today's side would have given them a proper run for their money. Tamplin deserved motm, if only for sorting out his Barnet.

Well I was unfortunate enough to be at the Chatham game and this was my first game since then and my god what a transformation! The midfield was quick, snappy in the tackle and always looking for a pass. The 2 wide men actually showed for the ball and looked to take on their man. The defence was rock solid and Arthur Penney was like a wall in front of them.
We have gone from a slow, cumbersome side into a side of pace, guile and attacking flair.
Long may it continue.
The only downside was the 4 gents who decided to stand next to me in the second half and discuss their feelings and friendship groups rather than watch the football! I could understand if it was a dull game but it wasn’t and they missed 2 out of the 3 second half goals. I feel I know a lot about them now though 😀

Surprisingly easy win but the highlight of the day for me was the exceptional cask stout in the bar. One of the best pints I've had in a while

Promises to be quite a match up at Dulwich Hamlet. Maybe a drumming workshop pre match?

I think today was one of the best team performances I've seen down the Pan, we made Enfield look absolutely toothless. I went for Hughes but in truth it could have been almost any of them. Moore + Woods' goals were both great too. Thought their keeper had a good game as well.

Quality performance for what was a fitting send off for Mr Fuller as chairman - thank you for everything you’ve done for the club!
Midfield trio were fantastic today and I’m starting to see some similarities in the set up from last season - big CB/DM shielding the backline, a box-to-box player who runs their socks off, and a skillful midfielder that likes to move forward and link with the attack. Last season it was Alfie Young, Brad Pritchard, and Tyrique Hyde and this season it’s Penney, Pritchard, and Sablier. It seems like this is how Tony likes to set up and it looks like it’s working well.
Some great goals today, especially from Tommy who seems to be in the groove now. But how I wish we had scored that one chance in the first half, could’ve easily been a goal of the season contender! A beautiful ping from Harvey to Sab who brings it down magnificently, outside the foot through ball towards Ola who couldn’t manage to poke it past the onrushing keeper. Would’ve been beautiful.
Onto Carshalton on Monday which will be tough but hopefully we can put on a similar performance to today.
