No complaints with that. Bring in three players that haven’t featured in weeks, change the formation to three at the back and the left sided players playing on the right AND all against a full time pro side doing quite well. Unfortunately we give them a gift for 1-0 but a very good effort, great commitment by all and I feel 4-1 flatters Aldershot a tad.

A very sad day, not only did the 'Rooks' lose , but 'Wales' lost in the rugby!

Our corners were woeful. ...as was a free kick that bisected two players!

No complaints, better team won. Shame that we didn't see the "real" Lewes, rather than a makeshift version. At times we passed the ball well and the move for the goal was sublime. Over the 90 minutes we actually created a few clear chances and for a while, after we pulled back to 2-1, I thought we were right back in it. Ultimately we were undone by very poor defending. Not just the gift for the first goal but they seemed able to run past our midfielders and defenders at will. Tamplin was about the only one who wanted to get in their faces. It must also be the slowest football team ever assembled! Wood, as usual, kept running and took his goal well but was horribly isolated and his lack of speed was exposed. Murtagh (despite some nice touches), Egan and Whelpdale were all rusty. Sablier was my motm, although faded in the second half. Still, an enjoyable day. Decent turn out and vocal backing (albeit rather infantile at times). File away under "missed opportunity" and move on.

Personally I’m proud of how we played. We were up against a full time outfit and had to change our formation - no Deon Moore (international duty), no Ola (cup tied) and no Ryan (injured). There’s very few players we could have brought in who either weren’t cup tied or their clubs would have allowed them to play.
Kalvin is still carrying a knock so was on the bench but unlikely to play much part. So with only one wide man (Deshane) we had to change the shape.
I see some criticise the playing from the back because of the first goal - yep it was a mistake but that’s not a reason to change a fundamental way we play - I can’t think of many goes we’ve conceded in the 100+ games we’ve played with that approach.
We had some good chances, especially towards the end of the first half. We needed to score first in the second period and we did but couldn’t put their defence, who were excellent imho, under enough pressure.
Every player put in a huge shift. Of course it’s disappointing to lose at this stage, but days like today just make us hungrier to go further.
As a FYI it’s now likely that the game v Horsham on the 31st will be moved - any clubs in the 1st (or subsequent) round of the cup can ask for their preceding league game to be moved.

No complaints from me. It was always a huge ask, and gifting them a goal start like that was the last thing we needed to do. You can often get away with errors like that in our league but not so much against full time outfits aiming for the football league. We were still rocked by that for the second. All things considered I thought we did OK. We were outclassed though, and the difference in fitness levels was apparent. Aldershot always had someone in space whereas a lot of the time our man in possession had few options. They also got bodies into our box which obviously ups the the chances of the ball falling to them. So not too disappointed. We gave it a go. Its all one can ask really.

Agree, that given the injuries and Moore's absence it was a pragmatic formation. Possibly starting Tamplin might have given us a bit more pace and energy in the middle. I felt that was where we came undone. We were OK with the ball, not so good without it.

Yes, Moore and Gondoh both out didn't help matters at all. Ah well, we made a few £££ which, at our level, is the best we can hope for. So, fairly happy in all. Trains were on time, got home 8-ish.
Next stop - Enfield (H). I'll be there!

We enjoyed the day, if not the result or being stuck on the M25 for an hour! Unfortunately, we lost the game in the first 15 minutes but recovered to make a decent game of it after we scored and Bradley came on. Can't be to hard on the team with the injuries and the progress made in FA Cup this season. Aldershot fans a friendly bunch, wish them well in the next round. COYR
