4-0 flattered us if anything. Absolutely dire.

Now that is a poor result. Five games left to redeem ourselves 🙏COYR

What can one say about that? One team fighting for points to stay up against a team with nothing to play for and with some players who looked like they were going through the motions. I'm not going to name any names, but it also seemed to me that some were still trying very hard, and there was some very terse verbal interchanges between some of the players, and the bench. Credit to Tony Russell and Ryan Gondoh for coming over and apologising at the end of the game for the dire performance. Tony looked very upset/angry by it all. Meanwhile, Cheshunt celebrated like they had won a cup final.
Cheshunt themselves were pretty awful. All long ball, but they did defend and press the ball very well. That always undoes us. We had the all-too-common defensive aberrations for, I think, all of the goals.
I fear for the Horsham game. On this showing that could be any score you like.

Canvey away first (before Horsham)? Yes. I was speaking from a personal point of view, as I have several Horsham supporting friends who will give me endless GBH of the earhole if we get turned over badly. Not worried about Canvey. I have no friends supporting them!

Canvey away first (before Horsham)? Tues 9th - Canvey A [mid-table]
Sat 13th - Kingstonian H [down]
Tue 16th - Horsham H [chasing playoffs] Sat 20th - Hashtag H [mid-table] Sat 27th - Haringey A [down]
4/5 dead rubbers. On this form I fear we won't get anything from Kingstonian or Haringey!

You'd like to think that personal and professional pride comes into it. I once ended up in the programme notes for having the temerity to suggest that semi pro players should not be exempt from criticism. I stand by that. Levels do seem to have tailed off, possibly from players who know they won't be here next season and have nothing to play for or prove. So much for all the team bonding in Belgium. It's a shame because there is a lot of talent in the side and they've played some very attractive football at times. The lack of a centre forward and a good holding midfielder has been our undoing. I will do the Horsham game, but the others have a feeling of post season friendlies. Big changes ahead, I suspect.

I don't think the constant switching of defensive personnel and formations helps. But what do I know?!

I can't imagine it exactly helped team morale having your manager saying on social media that he was leaving 10 games from the end of the season.

There weren't many Lewes supporters at the game. About 20. Even some of the "hard-core" didn't turn up.
So who's up for Canvey on Tuesday? That could be a step too far for everyone after yesterday and considering the mission that it is to get there. None of the other Stodgebusters are going. I'm not planning on going either, but come 4pm on Tuesday I might change my mind. Who knows? I could be on my own.

I think it's more a case of not having the quality in the team to try to play the style of football the manager likes. As has been pointed out on numerous occasions, if teams press us properly we're not good enough. We got away with it to an extent when we had a 30 goal forward but even then couldn't get in the play offs. If there are big budget cuts, I think we can 'look forward' to a more pragmatic approach.
