So on the subject of money, why don’t we have any? Appreciate its non league football, but our average gate is about 1,000, 5th highest in the league, a women’s team probably earning some tidy grants etc and then big sponsors with global companies, Xero, L&S etc. Appreciate there’s no sugar daddy in the background, but teams who gate less than half of us are up and around it. A few initial explanations come to mind, which may or may not be correct (I'm sure I'll be told where I'm wrong): 1. changing the world for the better doesn't come cheap 2. the "big sponsors with global companies" aren't as big as you think 3. great free things like the pitch have an ongoing cost attached to them that's higher than Roger sitting on his old mower once a week 4. 'game changers' like the 3G didn't change the game 5. despite all the hoo-hah about worldwide membership, nowhere near enough local volunteers have been attracted to make a significant difference to the cost base
I vaguely recall hearing years ago that the council charge only a peppercorn rent for the ground, so things could be worse if a commercial rent was due each year for that.

To aim higher the Rooks as a team need significantly more financial clout to recruit and maintain higher quality players. I think that Tony and the lads are up to the best that they can be. As a team we are not up to play off level (and anyway the club couldn’t finance a sustained promotion were we to manage it). How many on this forum remember our abject failure at the higher level last time around. COYR As someone who remembers our epic battles fondly and follows from afar, I think you have to be one of the better funded teams in the league. Hurling more money at a squad that has regressed over the past few years doesn't seem logical. If the team needs strengthening through an increase in the budget, it seems folly to employ a handsomely remunerated social media person when most other clubs have volunteers. Similarly the vanity project that your European adventure has cost you big money in travel as well as a huge distraction for I'm not sure what, exactly. Hope you get things sorted soon. What are you basing your views on the funding on? Because it goes against everything the club have said officially and from what I've heard from people at the club and others

I think you've got a decent squad which clearly costs money to bring down as most players don't live locally Your marketing is really good so by definition, should be making you decent £££ or else it is all a bit academic You can afford well paid off field staff rather than volunteers You can afford European travel for multiple games in an invitational cup Compare and contrast to other teams in your league. As an example and it pains me to say it but Bognor seem to be doing more with a lot less than you right now.

The club can afford the European trips because we keep every penny spent from the home games so a crowd of 1,000+ pays for the away travel. Many of the staff are funded by FA grants related to the licence we have for operating the Women’s team in the Championship. Without that grant, the roles don’t exist. You can’t use the grants for any other purpose

Sorry, I’ll clarify, they’re not up to the level to be a play off side. Lost 5 of the last 7 and shipped 20 in the process, something has to give at some stage. We’re a mid table side at best this year who play pretty football with no real goal threat and get rolled by anyone remotely physical. If that’s what people are content with that’s fine, but just feel we should be aiming a lot higher than that. We're a decent forward and a defensive midfielder away from being a play off side. We seem to either win in style, or crash and burn. Easy to blame the back four, but they don't get much protection when good teams break against us. If Murtagh wasn't so unfit he could fill this role. As for goals, to be fair to the manager he was badly let down by Taylor on the eve of the season.

Excuse my ignorance Stuart but what posts do the FA Grants fund? Some of the office staff such as the Commercial Manager and GM roles from memory (may have since changed I left)
